I’m pro Apple for phones and personal computing. I’m pro Linux for just about everything else. I’m pro windows when I have to be, and for games. I think it’s silly that people go crazy when Apple changes an adapter or removes a port.

However their new book is such a blatant “fuck you”, that I’m not even offended by it. It’s like the marketing people are just sitting around like “How do we spit in the faces of our customers and have them pay us for it?”

Here is how.

Most companies call it a catalog and send you one free.

Having to carry around a bunch of adaptors sort of gets rid of the purpose of making the computer thinner. Also MagSafe is the best charging system ever and they got rid of it.

“printed on specially milled, custom-dyed paper with gilded matte silver edges, using eight color separations and low-ghost ink” and “was developed over an eight-year period.”

What the fucking fuck.

I work in IT, and carry a MacBook 12. I carry a USB-C to USB adapter when I travel and have only used it once. I have a USB Ethernet adapter in my car just in case, but I’ve had that since my XPS.

At work and at home I have adapters but only because they double as a dock. One cable and I’ve got instant power, ethernet, keyboard/mouse, and two monitors.

Yeah but I’d have to take all those adapters with me.

What do you need so many adapters for? The USB one is the only one that I travel with and it’s tiny.

I typically will need to plug my phone in to my computer and charge my computer at the same time. Yes, even with my 5S.

In order to read it you will have to upgrade your language to English, Bison Edition 11.2.3. The upgrade is a 4 GB download and the book doesn’t come with enough pages to accommodate that amount of data. So you will need to buy a new macbook pro with the the new hyper drive and then sync it to the book after you have taken a backup of the old book.

I have a mid-2014 MBP 13. It works fine so I’m not too concerned about replacing it anytime soon. I don’t like Windows and while my wife gets by fine with her Chromebook I need a bit more than that for photo editing and whatnot. I want to have an SD card reader for cameras, and an HDMI port to plug into the TV (although this is becoming less necessary with my Roku covering most streaming services—haven’t really tried mirroring my screen but when doing that with my phone it’s a bit choppy).

I suppose I’d be more irked if I were going to be in the market for a new computer sooner, but maybe by the time I really need to worry about it, the connectivity situation will have caught up. In the meantime, adapters like this seem like a decent solution.

Yea I’ve got two similar adapters that I used at my work and home desk, but just as a dock (ethernet, HDMI, and Power). My old MacMini is now hooked up to the TV, and we have a linux box downstairs to dump files/plug in legacy equipment. Almost everything I do at this point is RDP/VNC/LogMeIn so I just wanted something tiny and Apple.

I bet the book doesn’t have a headphone jack either.

I have an iPhone 5S. The hardware is stunning but the software is so amazingly mediocre and backwards in places it’s incredible. Windows 10 Mobile (is that what they’re calling it now?) and even Android Nougat are making iOS look like ameteur hour. Disappointing considering how they used to be a pioneer in the mobile space.

I’m surprised they didn’t use Lightning. Wonder if this means the iPhone 8 will have a Type C instead of Lightning port.
